Recruitment Systems Logo

Recruitment Systems has developed world class recruitment software which eliminates unnecessary administrative tasks and automates as much of the recruitment process as possible. Recruitment Systems developed the CRIS and TRIS recruitment databases now used by recruiters in 20 countries.

Recruitment Systems was started in 1999 within IT recruitment firm Candle Australia (now Clarius Group), when Neil Bolton found he needed a database to help him track the thousands of candidates and resumes which the business was based on. After careful research of all the relevant databases on the market, Neil realised that no product really fulfilled his needs. A true entrepreneur, Neil saw a major opportunity and teamed up with expert software developer Slava Barouline to produce the Candle Recruitment Information System (CRIS).

As CRIS system developed, it was clear that the product suited recruiters in other agencies and industries. So Recruitment Systems was formed to develop and market the product worldwide. Gradually the CRIS database was superseded with the launch of the TRIS Recruitment CRM in 2008.

“The TRIS Recruitment CRM, our flagship software product, was the world’s first CRM product for the recruitment industry. TRIS is offered as a web-hosted or a client server solution,” Neil explained.

“TRIS helps recruitment companies by better organising key documents and communications. TRIS is fully integrated with Microsoft Office and leading HR and office management applications. This includes resume parsing and a simple search tool which scours all relevant documents across an organisation to identify the most suitable candidate for a position. TRIS also interfaces with major online job boards.”

The company’s first customer was a local media recruitment firm in Canberra.  The first export sale, which was to New Zealand, was achieved in late 2001. The company having started with three employees now has 20 people employed. After a very difficult year in 2009/2010, Recruitment Systems achieved significant growth in export income in 2010/2011. For the first time, the company succeeded in exporting the system to the USA, Thailand and Vietnam.

There was also some steady growth in traditional export markets – New Zealand, UAE and Qatar.

Recruitment Systems has also maintained existing exports to the UK despite the continuing economic difficulties in that market. Singapore is now the single largest export market with over 100 new users taking up the system in 2010/2011.

The market is highly contested and requires a considerable commitment to marketing and innovation.

“With over 200 major competitors across the world, the recruitment software category is increasingly being commoditised,” Neil explained.

Neil Bolton Export Awards 2010“This trend has been exaggerated further by the global financial crisis and pressure to discount our premium product is intense.

“However, we know we have a superior product so rather than discounting we have worked hard to communicate the value of our software and package our software with advisory services that our competitors fail to offer.  In this way, we have established a competitive advantage by demonstrating that we are much more than a software development house.”

Recruitment Systems first entered the ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards in 2004. The company won the ACT Small Business Exporters of the Year in 2008 and 2009 and were highly commended in the ICT Category in 2010.

Neil said the company participates in the Export Awards for three reasons.

“We see participation as a way to gain third-party recognition of export success, which we then use in future export promotion campaigns and activities.

“The Awards are also an opportunity to promote the export achievements of the company with our existing client base both here in Australia and overseas.’

“And finally and importantly, we can celebrate success with our employees.”
